Our Story
The story of Traverse Christian Church starts back in 2002 when Patrick and Hannah Lightfoot bought their first home in Windsor with the goal to get back to Fort Collins as soon as possible. However God had much different plans!
God used Journey Christian Church in Greeley, Colorado, to help grow their faith, and it's where He eventually called them to leave their sales careers of 12 years to go into full-time ministry. Patrick served as the Adult Minister at Journey 4 years before following God’s call to plant Traverse.
We are acutely aware that a large portion of our community does not have a saving relationship with Jesus Christ or a church they call home. Marriages and families are in desperate need of transformative relationships with Jesus. For those reasons, we know that we have to plant a church in Windsor.
We firmly believe that someone's forever is at stake in Windsor, and it is our job as ambassadors of Christ to bring this restorative love to our community and because of this burden we planted Traverse in December of 2015.
OUR MISSION
We exist to help as many people cross-over from death to life in Christ.
OUR VISION
Disciples who make disciples who make disciples
Values
Open the Door
We choose to live openly and honestly. None of us are perfect and none of us have time to pretend we are. Our heart is to bring our best in every situation, and when we drop the ball (because we will), we love each other enough to correct and encourage. Romans 12:9-10: Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other. (NLT)
Give it Away
Give it away means freely giving or sharing those things that God has blessed us with, without expecting anything in return. Because we understand that God is generous with us and everything we have comes from God, we must then reflect that generosity to others. Hebrews 13:16: Do not neglect to do good and to be generous, for God is pleased with such sacrifices. (ISV)
Run with Scissors
Jesus risked everything, and he desires that we do the same for him and the gospel. That is a huge task and one not to be taken lightly. For those of us who would follow Jesus and be willing to “lose our lives,” it takes courage, commitment, and trust in Jesus who will always be with us. Mark 8:35: For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. (ESV)
Enjoy the Journey
Those whose lives have been changed by the “Good News” of Jesus should be marked by a contagious sense of joy! God’s people should be fun to be around and laugh often. This creates an environment that is hopeful. Proverbs 17:22: A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired. (MSG)
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe in God. He is, He was, and He always will be. He created the Heavens and the Earth, and everything in them.
He is known as Father, came as the Son, and lives in believers as the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 3:16-17, John 1:1-2, Acts 2:32-33)
Jesus, God the Son, came to Earth and was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died for our sins, and rose from the dead.
He’s still alive and changing lives today! (Colossians 2:9, Luke 1:30-35, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
The Holy Spirit is a comforter and a guide for every born-again believer. He actually lives inside us,
His temple, and does more for us than we can imagine. (John 16:8, Acts 2:38, Ephesians 1:13-14)
The Bible is the book God wrote for us. It is true, it is accurate, it is authentic, and it is
absolutely applicable to our lives today. Get it, read it, live it! (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
We’re not perfect. We have sinned, all of us. We need help. We need Him. We need each
other, and that’s what Church is all about. (Genesis 1:27, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Acts 4:12)
It is a free gift. It is by God’s grace, not your good deeds. Jesus’ death allows your sins, all of them, to be forgiven.
Wiped out, cancelled, deleted, erased. Do you get the picture? Salvation is free, all you have to do is accept it. (John 3:16-17, Ephesians 2:8-9)
He calls us to repent (change our mind about who’s in charge of our life) confess Him as Lord and Savior (verbal declaration)
be baptized (water immersion), and faithfully walk with Him (until death). When we make Him Lord, we enter into a new life
and we follow Jesus all the way to Heaven. (Acts 3:19, Romans 10:9,10, Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, Romans 6:1-4, Galatians 3:26-27, Colossians 2:6)
They’re real. That’s why we are doing everything we can to share the good news about Jesus. God doesn’t want
anybody to choose Hell, but He wants everybody with Him in Heaven. That’s why we do what we do. (Acts 1:10-11, John 5:28-29, Daniel 12:2, 2 Corinthians 4:14)
